Halloween Strategies: Candies to Avoid

Happy Halloween from our team at Prince Dental Care! We hope you have a jubilant Halloween for both you and your smile. We want you to be safe this season and take care of your precious teeth. Always remember to brush and floss every day. In addition, try to avoid additional hazards that can pop up this holiday season, including numerous threats associated with candies and sweets that can easily damage your smile.

Try to stay away from sweets that have an excessive amount of sour ingredients. Sour candy has a high acidic content and is nearly equal to the pH levels of battery acid, thus increasing your risk for cavities, enamel loss, and tooth decay. Swap out acidic foods with healthier snacks and treats.

Sour sweets aren’t your only concern this holiday season. Extremely hard candies such as candy apples and popcorn balls can easily chip or crack teeth if you bite into them too hard. Furthermore, sticky or chewy sweets such as taffy or caramels can linger in your mouth long after consumption and can lead to dental erosion and tooth decay.

Keep your smile strong this Halloween. Prince Dental Care wishes you all a risk-free Halloween! For additional oral health care, we look forward to seeing you shortly. If you would like to schedule an appointment with Dr. Kenneth Browning Prince, please call us at 408-243-5044, or stop by our office in San Jose, California.
